SAIL011 - "Clenched Fist" by Niao, cd-r



Warm analog synth electronics, 6 long songs crafted to be realized and performed with three other people: Ben Lorber, Gordon Spencer-Blaetz, and Austin Julian. Pentatonic blues runs on the keyboard, hypnotic rhythms and melodies accompanied by toms, tabla, cymbals and tambourine (the only percussion). Religious and ritual-like vocals of the night that serve a prominent role throughout the album. No words, only drones and simple syllables like EY AH OO WAH. Dream loops that linger like a forgotten foundation. This is Niao's most mature, unique work that is tight and together. A craft of sound but it will move you physically as well as mentally. Our best release thus far, without a doubt, we are very proud and excited of this one. Recorded spring 2009 by Anthony Kingsley. $7 plus shipping.

Chants, vocal drones, no words, freedom, light, evolution, sometimes spatial, open, diffuse, other times rhythmically unified, interlocked, circular. One being the other's opposite. Syncopation, spontaneous. Hand drums, shakers, clinging glass bottles and cans. Tambourines, improvisation. This album is all about love and friendship, listening with an acute awareness, feeding off of the surroundings. No pretension, simple and subtle, yet all the more powerful and transcendent. Instrumentation centered around guitars and percussion. All free, spiritual and healing for the mind. Huaraches is Roberto Meza, George Glikerdas, and Gordon Spencer-Blaetz. Total of 23 minutes, this tape has two long improvisations that rise and fall gradually, from one extreme to the other. Oscillating Organ drones, infinite drum taps, mics thrown around, banging on metal garbage cans. finger-picked electric guitar of freedom and nihilism but aware, driven, and composed at the same time. music and photos by GG. yellow tapes with hand-painted info. $5 plus shipping.


SAIL004 - "Sailing Records Interviews Jon Solomon", zine


we interviewed jon at the WPRB headquarters last august (2007) asking him about his DJ career, his label My Pal God, Local Support (podcast affiliated with the Philadelphia City Paper of local bands), and the live performance series on his radio show that has had over a 150 acts. We also cover technology and the future of college radio briefly. Printed with full color photos taken by Sydney Shen of Jon and WPRB studios. half of 8.5 x 11 paper, hamburger-style. About 35 pages total, front and back. Hand-painted covers and home-stitched. $10 plus shipping.

"This album was recorded between february 2007 and january 2008. It is my first album that is pretty focused on words. Most of the songs are sort of "simple" I guess but it had to be intuitive. Solo four-track, all acoustic guitar with turkish percussion and flutes on the two instrumental songs. Some intense chanting. Scraps of metal. All songs written and recorded by George Glikerdas. "Yuri Gohen was born February 23rd, 1985 to a twisted collection of bones and books, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, bottoms up. Boredom sought the good things in the man and he ended up taking off for the west, leaving his words in the ditches, dancing with the witches, muddying his britches. You know, the sort of thing you don't see in the papers. Well, as it goes, music is in his blood, and on his mind and it just so happens he makes it too. Just like me and you. But it comes from the hills and it comes from the skies and it comes from the sun and it comes from the mud and it just may come from him to you."
